8 Reasons why you must baptize in the Lord

Baptism is very necessary for Christianity. If it were not so essential, it would not appear in the scriptures so numerous like that. Despite all these shreds of evidence of the benefits of baptism in the Scriptures, some have not recognized its importance.

There are many teachings that are against baptism but this not what is important. In our previous post, we have learned that baptism is a requirement for salvation. We shall look at the reasons why a person must baptize in the Lord.

1. Baptism is a commandment from Jesus Christ.

Jesus Christ, before His ascension, commanded that whoever believes in His Gospel must baptize in His name. This is the command of the divine being. Even if there are no benefits attached to it, we must obey this command.

Human beings find it very difficult to obey God. We like to do what our body dictates to us. Disobedience caused the downfall of man in the first place.

Remember, to obey is better than sacrifice. We do not need to question it or be against it; all we need to do is just obey it.

2. To obtain Mercy from God

Mercy is obtained when one baptizes in the Lord. What is mercy? The Webster’s dictionary defines mercy as “That benevolence, mildness or tenderness of heart which disposes a person to overlook injuries, or to treat an offender better than he deserves; the disposition that tempers justice, and induces an injured person to forgive trespasses and injuries, and to forbear punishment”

Mercy is, therefore, withholding punishment from someone who deserves it. We have all sinned against God and we deserve publishment. The Bible tells us that the wages of sin is death. Our punishment for sins is death, the separation of our souls from God.

We are powerless to save ourselves. Jesus Christ paid for debts that we could never pay through His bloodshed on Calvary. Thus, mercy is only obtained through baptism in the Lord.

Mercy is given to the humbled. If you do not humble yourself as a sinner and obey the commands of God, you will not obtain mercy.

Do you remember the parable of the Pharisee and the publican? The Pharisee bragged about his self-righteous acts and despised the publican.

On the other hand, the publican prayed without even lifting his head toward heaven. He said, "Be merciful to me a sinner"
He who humbles himself will be exalted and whoever exalted himself will be abated. The Bible tells us that the publican went home justified rather than the arrogant Pharisee.

3. To get the saving grace

Grace is a gift from God to humanity. Jesus died and was buried. Satan thought that was the end of the contest. Jesus rose again on the third day after burial. He overcomes death for us. Baptism is in like manner of the death, the burial and the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Through baptism, one is buried and resurrects with Jesus Christ to overpower death with Him. This is the gift God has for us if we baptize in the Lord; He saves us from the power of darkness.

“Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?

Therefore, we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so, we also should walk in newness of life.

For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection.” (Rom 6:3-5)

The Bible tells us that baptism saves!

“Which sometime were disobedient when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water. The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us; (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ.” (1Pe 3:20-21)

4. To become a Kingdom Citizen

The Bible tells us that, on the day of Pentecost, God Himself added the three thousand souls that baptized to the Church. The Church is the “called out”. It is the manifestation of the Kingdom of God here on earth. Therefore, when one baptizes in the Lord, he is translated from the Kingdom of darkness to the Kingdom of light, hence, becomes a Kingdom citizen.

“Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son.” (Col 1:13)

5. For God's Protection

God has some level of protection for everyone, whether we obey Him or not. When you become God’s children through baptism, He offers you maximum protection. Examine how the hen protects its chicks from bad weather conditions by gathering them under its wings. How much God will not protect His chosen ones. God’s protection for His children is wonderful.

“But the Lord is faithful, who shall establish you, and keep you from evil.” (2Th. 3:3)

6. For reconciliation with God

What is reconciliation? The Webster’s Dictionary defines reconciliation as “the act of harmonizing parties at variance; renewal of friendship after a disagreement or enmity”. Reconciliation is the act of drawing together parties in disagreement.

The sins we have committed have distorted the cordial and peaceful relations with God. It is therefore imperative for us to reconcile with God before it is too late.

The only means by which one could reconcile with God is to depend on the blood of Jesus Christ shed on Calvary. Therefore, one must accept Himself as a sinner, secondly, he should believe upon hearing, that truly Jesus Christ came to die, buried, in addiction He resurrected on the third day as recorded in the scriptures (the gospel of Christ).

Moreover, one must turn away from all corrupt acts of the body. He should confess that Jesus Christ is the son of the living God. He must baptize in the name of the savior, Jesus, for his cleansing blood to compensate for him. You will reconcile with God if you accept these peace agreements; it is very personal.

7. To receive the seal of the Holy Spirit

To seal something means to approve and confirm that something is yours or that something is done by you. Through baptism, the Holy Spirit seals us. This means that God has approved and confirm that we are His.

The Holy Spirit renews and sanctifies us. He produces in our hearts those feelings of hope, and desires, which are evidence that God approves us. Hence, we are regarded as his adopted children; that our hope is genuine, and that our redemption and salvation are sure.

“In whom ye also trusted, after that, ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that Holy Spirit of promise, which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.” (Eph 1:13-14)

8.The Eternal life

In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began. (Tit. 1:2)

This promise is made only to those that baptize in the Lord, the children of God. What all Christians are hoping for is the eternal dwelling with the King of the Kingdom of God, Jesus Christ; for their citizenship is in heaven.

Have you been baptized in the Lord for the above benefits?
